(April 24, 2025 – VERSAILLES, KY) — They’ve combined for hundreds of LPGA Tour wins all over the world – and they’re headed back to Bluegrass Country this summer. The Legends of the LPGA will return to The Woodford Club in Versailles for the 3rd annual Woodford Legends Invitational powered by Suran Systems, a 36-hole team event showcasing the talents of some of the biggest names in the history of women’s golf set for Saturday and Sunday, June 7-8, 2025.
The LPGA Legends field includes defending champions Catriona Matthew of Scotland and Becky Morgan of South Wales who teamed up to card a two-day total of 26 under par in last year’s two-Legend scramble format. Five World Golf and LPGA Hall of Fame members are set to appear along with three past U.S. Senior Women’s Open champions and three Legends who have together won five of the seven Senior LPGA Championships played to date.
“We are proud to host The Woodford Legends Invitational where we help honor the stories and spirit of the LPGA Founders who 75 years ago paved the way to create the LPGA Tour,” says Bob Baldassari, PGA Certified Professional and Tournament Director at The Woodford Club. “These current LPGA Legends carry on that legacy with every round they play.”
A Media Day was held yesterday at The Woodford Club and included golf with two LPGA Legends who look forward to returning to the area to compete in the team event in June: Leta Lindley and Nancy Scranton.

Lindley of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, is the reigning U.S. Senior Women’s Open champion and will team up once again in the Woodford Legends Invitational with Suzy Whaley, one of golf’s most notable trailblazer as the first woman to qualify for a PGA TOUR event by winning her state’s PGA professional championship.
“The Woodford golf course is challenging with its undulating greens, and every hole presents a different test,” said Lindley, who competed on the LPGA Tour from 1995-2012, notching one win and 33 top ten finishes. “I love the character of it, and I would certainly enjoy playing it every day.”
Five-time LPGA Legends winner Scranton of St. Augustine, Florida, a member of the University of Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame, enjoyed the opportunity on Media Day to once again play The Woodford Club, a course she describes as “very memorable.”
“When we talk about playing any hole at the Woodford in last year’s event, I still remember the hole,” said Scranton, who will team up this year with Ashli Bunch, a Morristown, Tennessee native who competed on the LPGA Tour from 1998-2012. “This course is very memorable, and it’s a good, fun golf course. There are several realty good birdie and eagle holes,” added Scranton.
Playing alongside the LPGA Legends in a separate division will be a selection of two-woman teams made up of Kentucky state amateurs, a special opportunity for top area amateurs that was introduced in last year’s event.
“The younger girls get to see that maybe this (competing on Tour) is not out of reach,” noted Scranton, who collected three wins on the LPGA Tour, including a major championship title, and also competed in the Solheim Cup. “We are human just like they are. They see us out there having fun. It’s competition, but it’s still fun. You see the competitiveness but also the camaraderie because the Woodford Legends Invitational is a team event.”
Tournament round days will also feature fun activities for youth and families as well as skin care screenings by a certified nurse thanks Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, the event’s Official Volunteer Sponsor for the second consecutive year.
“To see the Legends of the LPGA playing The Woodford Club reminds us that passion doesn’t age but it deepens, and it inspires us all to keep playing and enjoying the journey of golf,” added Baldassari. “It’s truly remarkable that a little white ball, a stick, and some green grass along 18 holes, can transform a life. It shows that golf is a bridge between generations, a celebration of resilience, and a stage where these LPGA Legends continue to inspire us, one swing at a time.”
Event proceeds will benefit Official Charity Partner KVC Kentucky, a local nonprofit that recently celebrated 25 years of providing essential behavioral health care, substance use treatment, child abuse prevention, crisis support and family-strengthening services to children, individuals, and families across Kentucky.
“The Woodford Legends Invitational is a remarkable event that celebrates the talent of LPGA golfers, uplifts aspiring amateur female athletes, and makes a meaningful impact by giving back to children and families in need,” said Dr. Megan Moore, Senior Director of Innovation and Impact at KVC Kentucky. “We are honored to be the charity partner for this annual tournament and deeply grateful to the Woodford Club and the LPGA Legends for recognizing and supporting KVC Kentucky’s mission to strengthen and support children, adults, and families throughout the Commonwealth.”
