Opening round pairings announced for Woodford Legends Invitational

(August 6, 20026 – LEXINGTON, KY.) – Kentucky golf fans are in for a real treat this weekend as 31 LPGA Tour veterans and 13 of the state’s top women amateurs descend upon The Woodford Club in Versailles, Ky. for one of the most exciting team events on the Legends of the LPGA schedule: The Woodford Legends Invitational.

Two days. 36 holes, 22 two-person teams playing a scramble format – and one of the strongest Legends fields ever assembled ready to tee it up on Saturday and Sunday, August 8-9.

“There is no place else like Versailles,” says Leta Lindley, the 2024 U.S. Senior Women’s Open Champion who has returned to the greater Lexington area with teammate and women’s golf trailblazer Suzy Whaley for another stab at the coveted winner’s circle.

“This is a terrific week of golf, horses and bourbon,” adds Lindley. “Hopefully the third time is the charm for our team!”

Lindley and Whaley are set to tee off at 10:44 a.m. in Saturday’s opening round and are paired with the always-a-threat twosome, 13-time LPGA Tour champion Rosie Jones and two-time LPGA Tour winner Michele Redman. Jones and Redman have combined for a dozen Legends of the LPGA wins – one of which was the 2019 BJ’s Charity Championship team event.

In addition to Jones and Redman, there are five more duos who have previously combined to win a Legends team event, including the two-time Woodford Legends Invitational defending champions, Catriona Matthew and Becky Morgan, who will tee off in Saturday morning’s final pairing with Juli Inkster and Pat Hurst at 11:50 a.m.

Other past champions in Legends team events include Laura Davies and Trish Johnson (11:39 a.m.), Pat Bradley and Jamie Fischer (11:28 a.m.), Wendy Ward and Angela Stanford (11:06 a.m.), and Jane Blalock and Patricia Meunier-Lebouc (10:33 a.m.).

World Golf Hall of Famer Hollis Stacy autographs Woodford Legends Invitational flags.

The Legends field in this year’s Woodford Legends Invitational has combined for 322 LPGA Tour wins and 42 major championship titles and features six LPGA & World Golf Hall of Fame members, including Bradley, Davies and Inkster along with Annika Sörenstam, Hollis Stacy and Jan Stephenson.

This is Annika’s first appearance in the tournament; she’ll team up for the first time in a Legends event with sister Charlotta and is set to tee off Saturday at 11:39 a.m. in the pairing with Davies and Johnson.

“Hopefully Charlotta and I can play well together and make some putts,” says Annika, one of the greatest golfers of all time.  See Full List of Legends Teams >

In addition to the 16 Legends teams, six twosomes made up of Kentucky’s top women amateurs will play alongside the Legends and compete in a separate division. Last year’s amateur champion, C.A. Carter, will team up with a new partner this year, Mary Keene Marrs, and is set to tee off at 10:55 a.m. with 2025 runner-up Legends team Liselotte Neumann and Jane Geddes, both of whom have won a U.S. Women’s Open title.

“It’s not just that these are some of the most decorated players in history,” says Jane Blalock, 27-time LPGA Tour champion. “Their personalities and the way they interact with the fans at every event is truly remarkable. If you are able to come out and watch, you’ll see very few ropes and have the rare opportunity to see these players and their games up very close. Don’t miss this chance.”
