Sörenstam Sisters Anticipate Rare Opportunity to Team Up at the Woodford Legends Invitational

(July 29, 2026 – LEXINGTON, Ky.) — Throughout their remarkable golf careers, sisters Annika and Charlotta Sörenstam have represented Sweden on the game’s biggest stages, celebrated victories around the world and shared countless memories as competitors.

They’ve shared the same last name, the same passion and many of the same fairways.

And now, they’ll share a scorecard.

The Sörenstam sisters will join forces for the first time in a Legends of the LPGA competition in the 4^th annual Woodford Legends Invitational powered by Suran Systems at The Woodford Club in Versailles, Kentucky on August 8-9.

“I look forward to being with Lotta in a couple weeks,” says Annika. “It will be nice to be able to spend time with her on the course.”

While both represented Team Europe in the 1998 Solheim Cup, the sisters were never paired together in competition. Beyond the Solheim Cup, women’s professional golf offered few team events during the prime of their careers, leaving the sisters with little opportuniy to compete side-by-side.

“Can’t remember from our junior years if we teamed up for sure or not,” says Charlotta. “The only time I’m certain we were teammates was when we both represented Europe in the Solheim Cup in 1998, but we didn’t pair up as partners then.”

For golf fans, it’s a dream team that has been decades in the making.

Annika Sörenstam, 55, compiled one of the greatest careers in golf history, winning 72 LPGA Tour titles, including 10 major championships, capturing eight Rolex Player of the Year awards and earning induction into both the LPGA Hall of Fame and World Golf Hall of Fame. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players the game has ever seen, Annika continues to compete in senior women’s golf events while serving as a global ambassador for women’s golf.

Charlotta Sörenstam, 53, competed for the University of Texas and won the NCAA individual championship, as well as All-America honors, before building a successful professional career. Charlotta celebrated victories on the Korean LPGA Tour and the LPGA Tour, where she also posted 23 top-10 finishes from the mid-1990’s into the 2000’s. A seven-year member of Sweden’s National Golf Team, Charlotta represented Europe in the 1998 Solheim Cup alongside her older sister. A highly sought-after instructor, Charlotta has been coaching the next generation of stars as a Short Game Specialist at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. since 2021 while continuing to compete on the senior women’s circuit.

Now, the Sörenstams will combine their talents in the Woodford Legends Invitational’s unique 36-hole, two-player scramble format—a format that places as much emphasis on teamwork and chemistry as it does on shot-making.

“I’m looking forward to sharing the experience together and playing good golf,” says Charlotta, who knows exactly what makes her sister such a formidable teammate.

“The consistency Annika has had throughout her career,” notes Charlotta. “Plus, how tough and calm she is under pressure.”

Annika is equally complimentary of her younger sister’s game.

“Lotta has always hit the ball well,” says Annika. “Hopefully we can play well together and make some putts.”

The Sörenstams will face 15 other two-player teams featuring many of the game’s most decorated players. The field includes six LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame members and represents a combined total of 322 LPGA Tour victories and 42 major championship titles. The event annually attracts many of the greatest names in women’s golf to central Kentucky for a weekend that blends world-class competition with a relaxed, team-oriented atmosphere.

Notably, World Golf Hall of Famer Hollis Stacy is also teaming up with her sister, accomplished amateur Martha Leach, giving fans the rare opportunity to watch two sets of sisters compete in the same championship.

“This is an amazing event no matter who your partner is,” says Charlotta. “But getting the chance to pair up with your sister is hard to beat.”

Gates open at 8:30 a.m. at The Woodford Club on Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9, with tee times beginning at 10 a.m. As in previous years, top area women amateur golfers will play alongside the LPGA Legends while competing in a separate division. All proceeds benefit Official Charity Partner KVC Kentucky.
