Seven U.S. Women’s Open Champions headed to The Woodford Legends Invitational Next Week

(May 30, 2025 – VERSAILLES, KY) — The Legends of the LPGA are headed to Bluegrass Country for the 3rd annual Woodford Legends Invitational powered by Suran Systems at The Woodford Club next week, and the field includes seven past champions of the U.S. Women’s Open, a major championship being contested this weekend at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisc.

Past U.S. Open Champions set to appear at The Woodford Invitational include Hollis Stacy, Pat Bradley, Jan Stephenson, Jane Geddes, Laura Davies, Liselotte Neumann and Juli Inkster.  Defending Senior U.S. Women’s Open Champion Leta Lindley is also in the field.

Six-time major winner Pat Bradley, one of seven women to have completed the Career Grand Slam, won the U.S. Women’s Open in 1981 and collected a total of 31 wins on the LPGA Tour.

“We appreciate the opportunity to test our abilities, to test our skills, and to keep our dream alive as veterans of our game,” adds Bradley. “We really look forward to coming back to The Woodford Club. The membership has been wonderful to us.”

Pat Bradley and Jamie Fischer pose with Laura Davies and Trish Johnson on the first tee at the 2024 Woodford Invitational.

Bradley returns to the Lexington area with playing partner Jamie Fischer to tee it up alongside their Legends of the LPGA peers in a 36-hole team event set for Saturday and Sunday, June 7-8, 2025. Last year’s tournament was won by the team of Catriona Matthew and Becky Morgan with a score of 26 under par; the pair will be back to defend next weekend.

Bradley and Fischer and Matthew and Morgan are among 10 two-Legend teams returning to compete in the two-day event that will feature a best ball format in the opening round and a scramble format for the final round.

“The Woodford Club is a great test of golf,” says Bradley. “The par 3’s are nothing to take lightly. They challenge you in every way. I will concentrate a lot on the par 3’s because those are important golf holes there.”

Five newly formed teams include debut appearances by Inkster, major winner Angela Stanford, Sweden’s Maria (Hjorth) McBride and Charlotta Sorenstam and Jill McGill, the 2023 U.S. Senior Women’s Open Champion.

In keeping with a tradition started at last year’s event, five teams made up of top area female amateurs will play alongside the Legends of the LPGA for both rounds while competing in a separate division.

Tee times start at 10:00 a.m. both days. Parking is adjacent to the clubhouse within walking distance.  Shuttles will also be available.
