(Lexington, Ky. – May 4, 2026) – LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame member Annika Sörenstam is coming to The Woodford Club in Versailles, Ky., to compete in the 4th annual Woodford Legends Invitational, a 36-hole LPGA Legends team event to be staged August 8-9, 2026.
Sörenstam will team up in the two-person, two-day scramble with her sister, Charlotta Sörenstam, a past champion on the LPGA Tour who also competed in the Solheim Cup.
The Woodford Legends Invitational showcases the talents of 32 Legends of the LPGA forming 16 two-person teams for the competition. The field includes defending champions Catriona Matthew and Becky Morgan (winners in 2024 and 2025) as well as five World Golf Hall of Fame members in addition to Annika: Pat Bradley, Laura Davies, Juli Inkster, Hollis Stacy and Jan Stephenson.
“The Woodford Invitational has a tradition of attracting the greatest names in women’s golf,” notes Jane Blalock, a 27-time LPGA Tour champion who helped orchestrate the inaugural event and will also return to Woodford to tee it up in August. “The addition of Annika, one of the most successful and recognizable names in all of women’s sports, is truly a testament to the quality of the tournament,” adds Blalock.
“The Woodford Legends Invitational is dedicated to highlighting and celebrating women’s golf,” notes Randy Clay, owner and operator of The Woodford Club. “Annika is not only one of golf’s greatest champions, she continues to be a trailblazer in growing the game for young women everywhere. To have her here, playing alongside her sister, Charlotta, will be incredible to watch — and dare I say ‘magical.’”
Sweden’s Annika Sörenstam won 72 LPGA Tour titles, including 10 major championships, on her way to achieving the Career Grand Slam, becoming one of only seven players – and the only European – in women’s professional golf to do so. The keeper of a record eight Rolex Player of the Year awards and six Vare Trophies for lowest scoring average, Annika is the only woman in LPGA Tour history to shoot a 59 in a professional tournament. A competitor in eight Solheim Cup contests for Team Europe and winner of 22 matches, Annika served as European Team Captain in 2017.
“Annika’s appearance will definitely make the Woodford Legends Invitational team competition even more exciting this year,” smiles Blalock. “We’re thrilled to have her join us.”
The Woodford Legends Invitational tournament week will include a junior clinic, an intergenerational all women’s golf outing, an official Pro-Am, the traditional Champions Dinner and two rounds of Legends team competition. As in the past, Kentucky area amateur women will be invited to play in a separate amateur division alongside the LPGA Legends during tournament rounds on Saturday and Sunday. A trophy ceremony will immediately follow final round action.
